The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences mourns the passing of colleague Dr. Norman Gary Lane, Professor Emeritus, on Saturday January 14, 2006. Professor Lane was a kind soul who could see only the good in individuals of all walks of life. His academic accomplishments are many including receipt of the Paleontological Society Medal and advising a generation of paleontologists who now make up the top echelon of the profession. He motivated and inspired all who came in contact with him with a curiosity for not only geology but also for all natural sciences, and in service to mankind.
Mary R. Lane, 87, entered Eternal Life Monday, January 22, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, Dr. N. Gary Lane. Survivors include her children, Charles E. Lane (Joyce), Ann R. McCandless (Garry), and Susan L. Lane (Anthony G. Casebeer); and grandchildren, Aurora E. Lane, David G. Lane, and Mary McCandless.
Visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Home, 2000 Newburg Road, Louisville KY. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Nazareth Home, with burial to follow 2:30 p.m. in Valhalla Memorial Gardens, Bloomington, Indiana.
