Career pathways

Our new curriculum offers our undergraduate students opportunities to explore a wide range of topics in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. This new “pathway” process helps you choose course offerings that are more closely aligned with career opportunities. These pathways may lead to careers in Geology, Energy and Environment, Earth Sciences, and Atmospheric Sciences.

BSc in Earth Sciences

This pathway broadly explores concepts across Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. You choose among courses in atmospheric dynamics, meso-scale meteorology, climate change, geobiology, sedimentary geology, geochemistry, hydrology, and geophysics.

BA in Earth and Atmospheric Science

The degree is extremely flexible, giving students the opportunity to design their own degree within Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Students can also easily add a double major in EAS to another field in the College.

BSc in Atmospheric Sciences

The Atmospheric Sciences degree is designed to provide the education and training you need to begin a promising career in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or environmental sciences working for government weather agencies or private industry.

BSc in Environmental Geosciences

The B.S. in Environmental Geoscience is designed for students who plan to seek professional employment in the environmental geoscience sector or continue for advanced study in related fields. Students who pursue this degree program are introduced to concepts of geoscience relevant to environmental assessment and remediation including Earth materials, stratigraphy, hydrogeology, and GIS.

IU Geologic Field Station

We teach the geological skills that lead to the most sought-after professional skills for geoscience careers in academia, government intelligence and space agencies, USGS and state geological surveys, and many more possibilities.

American Geosciences Institute
