Michael Hamburger
COVID-19, Climate Change, and the Future of Civilization. This presentation will explore the connections between the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and the global climate crisis. The coronavirus pandemic has found frequent media comparisons to natural disasters. While it shares some important similarities with natural disasters, its global scope, gradual emergence, and widespread impacts on human health, the economy, and societal relations appear more like a dress rehearsal for climate change. Professor Hamburger will discuss the impacts of the pandemic on the global environment and its implications for the challenge of anthropogenic climate change.
