Claudia C. Johnson has been selected as IU's next Herman B. Wells Professor.
The Wells Professorship recognizes "extraordinary scholarship and teaching" by faculty on the Bloomington campus who "embrace deep concern for the well-being of students and devotion to diversity, inclusion, and academic excellence, reflecting the values of Herman B Wells." Professor Johnson's commitment to diversity and inclusion in teaching, service, and research were highlighted in the announcement made by the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.
The title is held in perpetuity, so Professor Johnson joins the 11 other Wells Professors who have been named since the award was established in 2001 after Herman Wells' passing, including Emeritus Professor Abhijit Basu who received the university's second ever Wells Professorship in 2002.
The award is not only a well-deserved recognition of Professor Johnson's accomplishments, but it benefits the department to have been bestowed on one of our own faculty (not to mention the direct benefits we receive from Claudia's work over the years she has been here). Congratulations, Claudia, and thank you for all you do for the department and the university!
