Extreme Water Vapor Transport during the March 2021 Sydney Floods in the Context of Climate Projections
EAS Professor Travis O'Brien, along with researchers from the University of Melbourne in Parkville, Australia, published a body of research in Geophysical Research Letters this month. Titled "Extreme Water Vapor Transport during the March 2021 Sydney Floods in the Context of Climate Projections," the work speaks to the prolonged heavy rainfall and extensive flooding in March, 2021, and the probablity of more extreme weather events in the future.
Quoting the text, "In this study, we used climate models to project how much more often events such as these may occur by the end of the 21st Century under two greenhouse gas emission scenarios. We found that the probability of long duration high water vapor transport over Sydney, as in March 2021, may increase by 80%."
